Jane Land - Fine Art painter in the early american folk-art style |
Jane began painting in the early 1990s out of a wish to capture some of the places and things she loved best, as they are, as they were, and as she sees them in her mind. Her very first painting was of her grandparent’s house in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and her subsequent work has developed in the same style: folk art landscapes, often divided into panels, featuring decorative borders and clear, vivid colors, and showing her interest in pattern and architecture. Many of her paintings contain scenes from Nantucket, where her family has a home, and where she has spent time almost every year since she was two. Other favorite subjects include Vermont, Christmas scenes, patchwork quilts and her home town of Larchmont, New York. Jane was born in Schenectady, New York and grew up in Westport, Connecticut. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1976 with a degree in Art History, and has taken courses at the Parsons School of Design. She has lived in Larchmont for more than thirty years with her husband, Stephen, a lawyer; they have two children and four grandchildren. She is an Associate Member of the Mamaroneck Artist’s Guild and has displayed her paintings at the Mamaroneck Artist’s Guild Gallery, at Nantucket Looms on Nantucket and in Quechee, Vermont. Her work is available for sale or by commission. Contact: jland@optonline.net Click here for samples of Jane's work (photographs of Jane's art by David Land): |
